If you want to give your vacation rental decor a quick update all you need to do is add or change up your sofa or bedroom throw pillows.
This simple decor change is super easy and doesn’t have to break the bank.
Below you’ll see some examples on how adding some color and texture can make your Airbnb decor look sophisticated and more appealing to potential guests.
Before: Plain Sofa

After: Behold the magic of throw pillows

How to choose throw pillows?
1. First let’s talk about size:
The most common size are: 24×24, 22×22, 20×20, 18×18 and lumbar pillow sizes.
2. Next is pillow inserts:
Flat floppy pillows are usually cheap looking and uncomfortable.
For a truly luxurious comfortable pillow you’ll want to get a down filled pillow.
However keep in mind that some people can be allergic so you’ll want to mention it in your listing.
If you’re looking for a safe for all option then you can get synthetic pillows, but be sure to take out some filling and sew it back it up if it feels too stiff.
Here are some recommended pillows:
3. Quantity:
If you have one or two pillows, depending on the size of your couch, it can look sad and lonely.
I recommend for a love seat 2 pillows on one side, and one on the other. For a larger sofa you’ll want to try 3 on one side and 2 on the other.
4. Lastly the fun part: Color
The easiest way to choose colors for your throw pillows is to look at the art around it, like in the example below:
Alternatively, if you don’t have any inspiring art, you can also pull colors from a rug.
If your decor is neutral you can still create visual interest by playing with pattern and texture such as this combo:
As you can see the options are endless and fun!
